FM2: What the hell is the Apex anyway?!

Alright, so now when I’m getting more and more into the racing aspects of life I hear more and more racing-terms I don’t know about. One that’s pretty common is the apex. I’ve been doing some research about the matter and have learned quite a bit.

The Apex, in short, is the spot where your car is the closest to the inside edge of the turn. It’s not a fixed point in the turn, you choose your own spot to be your apex. Depending on what kind of racing-driver you are you might push the apex back och pull it closer to the start of the turn.

If the apex is pushed away from the geometrical center of the turn (later in the turn), it’s sometimes call a racing apex. This is considered the best and fastest line to follow while racing. You will get a more strait line in the end of the turn and you will be able to accelerate earlier, and get a higher exit speed.

When drifting, the front of the car should be pointed at the apex to enable a high degree drift. This will make the car take up as much of the road as possible to keep your opponents from overtaking you. This is something I have yet to learn, and as soon as I am a drifting pro, I will write an article on how to drift with ease.

FM2: March car pack

Filed under: Forza Motorsport 2, News — admin @ 1:06 pm

The March car pack has been available for some time now. I haven’t got them yet, because I’m too poor and lazy to get some ms points, but I really feel like it’s time to invest in some new rides…

There are a lot of interesting cars in the pack, the Audi S5 is one of the. Looks absolutely gorgeous and is a monster of a car. Looks like a normal Audi A5, but is packed with racing tech and power. Wouldn’t say no to one of those on my driveway!

And then there’s the Maserati GranTurismo, just as great looking as the british beasts Jaguar and Aston Martin, but with some hot temper Italian blood. A compact 405 hp V8 is located at the front of the car, behind the fron axle, resulting in 51/49% weight distribution, not perfect but as good as it gets in a front engine car.

FM2: Driving assist and difficulty

As I’ve progressed in the game, the need to increase difficulty has appeared. When the races starts to get too easy to win, it’s time to make it a bit more difficult. So how do we make the game more difficult? By increasing the opponents difficulty? No! Don’t even think about it!

The answer is start turning off driving assists. This will make your drive a bit more difficult, and it will be harder to win races. The upside is that you will be a better driver! If you become an expert and win all the races against the hardest opponents with all the driving assists on, you will most probably loose control and never win a race ever again when you start turning off the assists. FM2: Making fast money

Filed under: Forza Motorsport 2 — admin @ 2:41 pm

When competing in the career mode, you often need more money to buy cars and upgrades to be able to compete in new races. I’ve found a little trick to make a lot of money with little effort. I wouldn’t call it cheating, it’s more taking advantage of the rules…

You need to find a race that takes place on the Nissa Speedway and pays quite good, at least like 10.000 cr. When you have found that race you need to check your opponents cars, you need a car that has a higher top speed, the Nissan Speedway is all about top speed.

When you have run the race one or two times and feel comfortable with it, you change the difficulty. Turn off all help systems and change the AI to hard (if you’re not already using it) and all settings to simulation. This will grant you a nice bonus when finishing the race. If you have the fastest car you shouldn’t have any trouble winning the race, just be careful at the last turn, it’s easy to hit the outside wall.

When you finished this race 5-6 times you can surly afford a nice new car or U999′ing your current one.

Just to recap:

  • Select a Nissan Speedway race
  • Get the fastest car
  • Change all settings to most the difficult
  • Win the race
  • Cash cash cash!

FM2: Breaking

Filed under: Forza Motorsport 2 — admin @ 2:14 pm

One of the most critical parts of driving is breaking. Beginners usually does the mistake of breaking and steering at the same time. When you start to increase the difficulty, turning of ABS, stability control etc., your car will be very unstable when breaking and turning at the same time. This is because you only have a certain amount of friction between the tires and road. If you break and turn the friction has to compensate both the deceleration and the turning force.

Instead of turning and breaking, you should break before entering a turn. In this way, 100% of the friction can be used for deceleration and the risk of spinning out will be quite smaller.

Remember that breaking has nothing to do with turning! Turning is something you do without breaking, and with mayby just some light acceleration.

  • Approaching turn
  • Apply breaks some distance before turn
  • Smoothly release the break and start turning
  • Close to the exit of the turn, smoothly apply throttle
  • When you exit you should be at full throttle!

Good luck with your turning, and drive safe!

My favourite game

Filed under: Forza Motorsport 2 — admin @ 11:51 am

I’ve only been a 360-player for a couple of week now, and therefor I haven’t that much experience in different games. So far my favourite is Forza Motorsport 2. I’m completely hooked on this game, trying to expand my career and get faster cars!

I will try to write a couple of mini guides to the game in this blog. I have some small secrets and tips for you guys but you will just have to wait… :)
